Catholic Studies

Catholic Studies at UIC offers courses and events that aim to understand Catholicism. While this may seem simple, it is no easy task. There is so much to explore in a religious movement that has spanned nearly two thousand years and has over a billion followers worldwide. We invite you to study this complex and wide-ranging religious tradition with our faculty at one of the most diverse public research universities in the US.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about things like

  • the influence of Catholicism on US culture
  • the distinctive features of Catholicism in comparison with other religions
  • Catholics’ sacred texts
  • Catholic social justice movements
  • or even just basic information about the religious movement embraced by many of your fellow students

we hope you’ll consider taking a Catholic Studies course!

We promise you’ll learn more about the practices, people, history, institutions, and theologies that constitute Catholicism, and you may just learn more about yourself, too!
